Angelo Martinoni Places Second at FLO Nationals

Congratulations to Angelo Martinoni, who capped off his high school career in style, making it to the finals of the FLO Nationals in Pennsylvania. Martinoni went 5-1 to finish second in the country at 126 pounds. Martinoni was also 5th at nationals last year, so he goes out as a 2-time All-American. Martinoni came in unseeded, but proved just how tough our state is as he knocked off other state champions and placers on the way to the finals.

Martinoni started off the tournament with a 15-2 major decision in his first outbracket match. His next match was against the #3 seeded wrestler Ryan Moore from Kentucky who had just made the finals of the NHSCA Nationals in Virginia a few weeks earlier. He pulled out the 4-2 decision to advance and beat the highly regarded Moore. In the next bout, Martinoni got a 13-7 decision to push him into the quarterfinals. Martinoni then beat the #6 seed from Oklahoma, Val Park, in the quarterfinals who was a two time state champion by a score of 6-2. He continued on to take out two time state placer Justin Rivera from Florida in the semifinals 5-2 before dropping a decision in the finals to the #11 ranked wrestler in the country Jakob Camacho of Connecticut.
